Join us Sunday, October 1st, from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, for cocktails, as we kick off the 2017 AAPG Mid-Continent Section meeting with our Opening Session! This opening event will be held on the First Floor of the Cox Convention Center in Rooms 4 and 5.
Introductory remarks will be made by Tom Cronin as General Chair of the Convention and as Chair of the Oklahoma Geological Foundation. H.W. “Dub” Peace, as President of the AAPG Mid-Continent Section and John Brett, as President of the Oklahoma City Geological Society, will provide updates of their respective organizations.
Following the opening remarks, we are honored to have Mr. Steve Wyett, Senior Vice President and Private Wealth-Chief Investment Strategist from the Bank of Oklahoma, as our Keynote Speaker. Mr. Wyett will deliver a dynamic, “no holds barred” engaging, insightful and timely presentation entitled, “Oil Price Dynamics in a Changing World.” Check out Mr. Wyett's bio below.
Following Mr. Wyett’s presentation, a short Awards Presentation will end the Opening Session by recognizing those individuals who have volunteered their time and services to the AAPG Mid-Continent Section over the past several years. These recipients will be honored with the presentation of the Robey H. Clark Distinguished Service Award, the A.I. Levorsen Memorial Award, the Roger N. Planalp Memorial Award, and Certificates of Meritorious Service Awards. Recipients of these awards are listed below.

Robey H. Clark Memorial Award
The Mid-Continent Section’s highest award is the Robey H. Clark Memorial Award. This award is given in recognition to those individuals who are unsurpassed in their dedication to the geological community, the petroleum industry, and are of the highest personal and professional integrity.
The recipient for the 2017 Robey H. Clark Award is: Ernie Morrison, for his long time, dedicated service as a Councilor Member and as the President of the AAPG Mid-Continent Section.
Certificate of Meritorious Service Award
The Mid-Continent Section Certificate of Meritorious Service Award is given to individuals who have contributed their time, dedication, and volunteer services to the AAPG Mid-Continent Section.
The 2017 Certificate of Meritorious Service Award recipients are:
A.I. Levorsen Memorial Award
The A.I. Levorsen Memorial Award is given in recognition for the “Best Technical Paper” at the AAPG Section meetings with particular emphasis on creative thinking towards new ideas in petroleum exploration.
The recipients for the 2015 Mid-Continent Section Convention’s “Best Technical Paper” are Buddy Price and G.M. Grammer, for their presentation: “Sequence Stratigraphic Control on Distribution of Porosity Evolution in Cherts in the Mississippian of the Mid-Continent.”
Roger N. Planalp Memorial Award
The Roger N. Planalp Memorial Award is given in recognition for the “Best Poster” presentation at the Mid-Continent Section meeting. The award is in honor of Roger N. Planalp, who passed away in 1986 while serving as President of the Mid-Continent Section.
The recipients for the 2015 Mid-Continent Section Convention’s “Best Poster” are Taylor Thompson and G.M. Grammer, for their poster: “Fracture Characterization and Prediction in Unconventional Carbonates – Mississippian Limestone, Northeastern Oklahoma.”
The A.I. Levorsen and Roger N. Planalp Awards will be presented to the recipients in Oklahoma City at the 2017 Mid-Continent Section Convention.
