On behalf of the Mid-Continent Section of the AAPG, the Oklahoma City Geological Society, and the Oklahoma Geological Foundation, it is my pleasure to invite you to attend the 2017 Mid-Continent Section Meeting – “Today’s Idea, Tomorrow’s Discovery” - September 30th through October 3rd, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Today’s Oil and Gas Industry is in the process of reinventing itself through creativity and innovations from the many individuals who work in our industry, resulting in new technologies that have reshaped the Oil and Gas Industry. The 2017 Mid-Continent Section Meeting will focus on these new advances and technologies that will be used to find oil and gas reserves at affordable prices for decades to come. Come and learn about the latest innovations from some of the brightest professionals in our industry through a technical program that will include over 100 oral and poster presentations based on six themes.
The exhibit hall will feature 100+ exhibitors offering new technology and services, so please plan to spend the time to visit with them and learn about the opportunities and products that are available to you. There will be plenty of hot coffee in the exhibit hall for you to enjoy during the convention and the daily breaks.
In addition to, and complimenting the technical sessions and exhibits, there will be two field trips, one structural and one historical, and seven or eight workshops, including a Core Workshop. As a bonus for the 2017 Mid-Continent Section Meeting, the technical program will include two energy forums, one concentrating on technology and exploration, and the other dealing with economics and the future of the oil and gas industry.
I encourage everyone to take advantage of the networking opportunities that will be available at the Meeting. There will be numerous receptions and social events for everyone to participate in, including the exhibit hall, a beer fest, and alumni events. We will also offer tours and luncheons for the spouses and guests. You will have the opportunity to participate in the All-Convention Luncheon, the DPA Luncheon, and the Monday night reception/wine tasting and dinner. Entertainment announcements for the Monday evening event will be posted next month. We anticipate these events will fill up fast, so make your reservations early. It sounds like there is a party in Oklahoma City, doesn’t it?!
Finally, if you haven’t been to Oklahoma City in a while, you are in for a treat! From the Convention hotel, the Renaissance, you will be within walking distance, or a short cab ride, from world class steak houses and restaurants, the Myriad Botanical Gardens, museums, Bricktown (try the Canal Boat Ride), the Boathouse District, and the Bass Pro Shop and so much more.
Please make plans to attend the 2017 Mid-Continent Section Meeting in October in Oklahoma City. We look forward to seeing you here!
